Rehabilitation Center

BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A specialized medical facility for people with physical and psychological trauma has been designed. Through its reconstruction and expansion, we propose to create a new prototype of a hospital. Here the thesis “Where are you heading?”, which often accompanies victims during the post-traumatic period, will have a clear answer and pathways for solving the problems of patients who require not only physical rehabilitation but also socialization and the restoration of psychological balance.
The main idea behind the transformations and innovations is to use volumetric-spatial solutions and design to create an atmosphere of home-like comfort through scale, finishing materials, textures, clear functional zoning, and the separation of flows of different target groups.
The unifying theme of the complex is the material and color of fired clay, which is present in the tiled roofs of the historic villa and the buildings of a later period, and is proposed for the brick facades of the new parts and for the finishing of multifunctional landscape pathways. The facades of the new structures consist of clinker brick masonry with inserts of ceramic elements measuring 24 × 17.5 × 11.5 cm, which give the buildings a decorative character typical of the estate-type development of Briukhovychi, and also create an exceptional atmosphere when sunlight falls on them.
The external pattern on the interpreted tower at the main entrance to the building, which accommodates an elevator and lounge halls, smoothly descends onto the surface of the courtyard and envelops the creative workshop building at the entrance.
The newly added volumes with textured facades form intimate courtyards, the landscapes and improvements of which are visible from every corridor, hall, and inpatient ward, and together create a coherent ensemble with the buildings of previous years.
The volumetric-spatial solutions incorporate the latest achievements in accessibility, universal use, and rehabilitation practices, as a result of which the medical facility will create the opportunity not only to improve patients’ recovery during rehabilitation, but also during long-term treatment.
This project is about intimacy, closeness, warmth, comfort, hospitality, friendliness, and unity.
